There are many ways that you can get involved and make a difference in someone’s life. Choose the way that suits you!
ORGANIZE A USED CLOTHING COLLECTION EVENT
Most patients who are in crisis enter the hospital with little more than what they are wearing and stay for 3 days to 3 weeks, sometimes longer. Clothing items that are needed include jeans, t-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, socks, tennis or other casual shoes, cardigan or pull-over sweaters, and lightweight jackets. For the A-Visions participants, some work-appropriate clothing is much needed, including slacks, sport jackets, men’s work shirts and dress shirts, women’s blouses, skirts, dresses, handbags, and shoes. Medium to large sizes are most commonly needed. All items should be clean and in good condition.
For those of you who are NOT in the San Diego area but still wish to help, you can call your local hospital or mental health care facility to see if they need used clothing.
SHARE OUR MISSION
One in four families will be touched by mental illness – a family member, a cousin, a friend, a co-worker. It could be depression, bipolar disease, an eating disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia, or other illness. When you share Shed A Light’s stories and our Mission, you will be surprised at how many people understand the challenges facing those with mental illness.
