Who We Are

The Shed A Light Foundation was established in 2008 by Jim and Sheryl Bohlander in memory of Jim’s son, Barry, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was 19 years old. He died 5 years later after struggling with his disease. You can read about Barry’s story HERE. Knowing the difficulties involved in finding care, housing, and support for someone struggling with severe mental illness, the Bohlanders made a commitment to do what they could to help others suffering with this horrible disease. In recent years, the Shed A Light Foundation has helped fund important programs in both New Mexico and California, and is now located in Arizona. We have been a supporter of the A-Vision program at Scripps Behavioral Health since 2014. You can read how the program helped participants HERE . We continue to work towards raising funds to secure bed space with the START program for use by Scripps Behavioral Health. You can read about the START program HERE .
